The Chief Justice of India (CJI) on Wednesday assured to consider the ban on stray dogs on Delhi-NCR streets on Wednesday. CJI BR Gawai said that he will look at this matter. The CJI, while hearing the petition of a senior advocate, commented.
The petitioner also kept the plea for the conference for human rights (India) in the court, claiming that the Animal Birth Control (Dog) Rule, 2001, which makes regular sterilization and vaccination programs compulsory to reduce the growing population of stray dogs, is not being followed.
On August 11, the Supreme Court ordered all stray dogs to be removed from residential areas and sending them to shelter home in view of cases of dog bytes and rabies. Mix reactions were received on this order.
The court warned of strict action against the persons obstructing this work. The court said- If a person or organization becomes a hindrance, contempt action can be taken. The court, taking a dig at animal and dog lovers, questioned whether they would be able to bring back the victims of rabies? Children should not have rabies at any cost.
