So far, 65 people have died due to floods and debris after cloudburst in Chasoti village of Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir. Of these, 34 have been identified. So far 167 people have been rescued.
The condition of 38 of these is critical. More than 200 are still reported missing. Former CM Farooq Abdullah said- More than 500 people may be buried in the debris. The party member has spoken of suppressing one thousand people.
The accident took place on August 14 at around 12:30 pm. Thousands of devotees reached the village of Chasoti in the Paddar sub-division of the district for Machail Mata Yatra. This is the first stop of the journey. There were buses, tents, anchors and many shops of devotees here. Everything was washed away in the flood.
Kishtwar Deputy Commissioner Pankaj Sharma said- NDRF’s team is engaged in search-rascal. Two more teams are on the way. National Rifle soldiers are also engaged in the operation. Five groups (total 300) of 60-60 jawans, medical teams of White Night Core, Jammu and Kashmir Police, SDRF and other agencies are engaged in the operation.

The Chashoti is about 90 km from Kishtwar city and the first village on the way to Machail Mata Temple. This place is in the Paddar Valley, which is 14–15 kilometers inside. The mountains of this area range from 1,818 meters to 3,888 meters high. At such a height there are glaciers (snow sheets) and slopes, which intensify the flow of water.
The Machail Mata pilgrimage takes place every year in August. Thousands of devotees come in it. It will run from 25 July to 5 September. This route is 210 km long from Jammu to Kishtwar and can be trains on a 19.5 km road from Paddar to Chasoti. It is then a walk of 8.5 km.
People’s lungs filled mud
According to the news agency PTI, the scene of this tragedy is scared. Many bodies were stained with blood in the debris. The mud was filled in the lungs. Broken ribs and limbs were scattered. Local people, army personnel and police, after hours of hard work, were dug from the mud -filled area and loaded on their back to the hospital.

Eyewitness said- raced but got caught in debris
Vishal Mehra, one of the injured, told, I came from Jammu to a Machal Yatra. We were returning after darshan and stayed in Chashoti. A part of our group was slightly left behind. We were drinking tea and as soon as we finished tea, army soldiers asked us to run away from there. We ran, but we got caught in the rubble. My sister and nephew are missing.
