NDA can decide on the name of Vice Presidential candidate today. According to sources in the news agency ANI, the BJP Parliamentary Board meeting will be held at 6 pm, during which the name of the candidate will be decided.
According to ANI, the chosen candidate will file nomination on August 21. During this time all the Chief Ministers and Deputy Chief Ministers of the NDA ruled states will also be involved.
On the other hand, the leaders of the opposition coalition can also hold a meeting on August 18 (Monday) to discuss the Vice Presidential candidate. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge is interacting with India Block leaders.
Voting will be held on 9 September for the Vice Presidential election. Counting will also be held on the same day. The last date for filing nomination is 21 August. Candidates can be withdrawn by 25 August.
In fact, Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned from the post of Vice President on the night of 21 July. The tenure of 74 -year -old Dhankar was till 10 August 2027.

NDA has majority in Parliament
- Out of a total of 542 members in the Lok Sabha, NDA has 293 members and the INDI alliance has 234 members.
- Out of 240 members in the Rajya Sabha, NDA is supported by about 130 MPs and 79 MPs for IndA alliance.
- Overall, NDA has 423 MPs and 313 MPs near India block. The remaining members are not associated with any camp.

Om Mathur is currently the Governor of Sikkim. 73 -year -old Mathur is a strong leader of the party and comes from Rajasthan. He has been the election in -charge of Gujarat when PM Modi was the Chief Minister of the place. Along with Modi, he is also considered close to Union Home Minister Amit Shah. Mathur has been a campaigner in the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh.

6 stages of Vice Presidential election …
Step 1- To form an electoral college: The Vice President is elected by the electoral college, which includes all elected and nominated members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha.
Step 2- Election notification issues: Notification by the Election Commission has nomination, voting and result dates.
Step 3- Nomination Process: The candidate has to file nomination papers with at least 20 MPs with a signature by proposer and 20 MPs as a supporter.
Step 4- There is publicity between MPs: Only MPs are voters. Therefore, this publicity is in a limited range. Candidates and their supporters are involved in campaigning.
Step 5- Voting process will begin: Every MP marks the candidates on the ballot in order of priority (1, 2, 3 …).
Step 6- Counting and results of votes: A total of valid majority (more than 50%) of total valid votes have to be obtained for victory. Returning officers announce the result.
