The Central Government on Tuesday approved a ₹ 62 thousand crore project to buy 97 Tejas LCA Mark-1 a fighter jet for the Indian Air Force (IAF). Defense sources told news agency ANI that the purchase of fighter jet was given final approval in a high level meeting.

Due to this, the way to get orders for making these aircraft for Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) is also almost clear. Because by promoting Make in India initiative, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is constantly insisting on the revival of HAL.

During the Modi government, HAL has received orders to make all types of indigenous fighter aircraft, helicopters and their engines. This will be the second order for HAL for LCA Mark 1A fighter jet. Earlier, the government has ordered HAL to make 83 aircrafts. More than 65% of LCA Mark-1A equipment are made in India.

HAL has time till 2028 to give 83 Tejas In the year 2021, the Central Government gave HAL a contract of Rs 46,898 crore to make HAL 83 Tejas Mark-1 A for the Indian Air Force. The company has time till 2028 to deliver 83 aircrafts.

HAL said on 12 February that we will soon start delivery of Tejas to the Air Force. HAL chairman and managing director DK Sunil said that the industry was being held responsible for the delay in delivery, but the delay was due to technical flaws. Now it has been removed.

Mig series aircraft will replace LCA Mark-1 A Defense sources said that the new project of 97 aircraft will help the Indian Air Force to replace its Mig-21 aircraft fleet. The MiG-21 fighter aircraft will retire on 19 September after serving the Indian Air Force for 62 years. LCA Mark-1 A aircraft will replace Mig-21, MIG-23 and MIG-27.

LCA Mark-1 A is considered to be a major step towards India’s self-reliance and make-in-India in aerospace. There is a plan to deploy Swadeshi Tejas Mark-1A at Nal airbase in Bikaner, Rajasthan near Pakistan border.
