In Karnataka, the Election Commission is going to abolish giving the numbers under certain circumstances amidst the uproar due to the record of ‘zero’ in hundreds of voter ID cards in Karnataka. For this, a new format is being considered about the voter’s address, so that the compulsion to give the imaginary number is over.
It also includes abolishing the mandatory to enter the house number in the voter ID. Putting Aadhaar number instead of house number is also being seen as an alternative. Significantly, the Congress has made a political issue to give number 00 or 77777 or 9999 to a large number of houses.
Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, showed many such addresses in the voter list of Karnataka, next to which the same numbers were written. After this, there was a new debate about such voters. Questions were also being raised on the Election Commission.
Some voter cards in Karnataka had zero instead of house number.
CEC said- those who do not have a house, their house number is 0
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Dnyanesh Kumar stated at the press conference on August 17 that there are a large number of voters who spend the night on the pavement, under bridges or under a lamppost. The house number zero is recorded in the house address of such voters. The Aadhaar issuing organization UIDAI estimates that a permanent address is not recorded in the Aadhaar of 12 lakh people. The Aadhaar Authority has recorded the address by showing the Care of the Head of the Family for such people.
Rahul Gandhi held a press conference in Delhi on August 7, accused the Election Commission of disturbing the voter list.
17.73 lakh people in the country do not have housing number
In the last census, it was also revealed that about 17 lakh 73 thousand people in the country are homeless. They had no census residence number. About 9 lakh 38 thousand people were registered in urban areas and 8 lakh 34 lakh people were registered in rural areas. Civil organizations also objected to this number and said that the number of homeless people is much more than this. Now the correct picture will be revealed in the 2027 census. Through this census, it is expected to have a strong arrangement to register the house number properly and to write them in front of the houses.
0 or 00 number recorded on 2.90 lakh houses in Bihar
- The commission says that in the records, millions of such voters have been found in every state, whose house number has zero records. The reason for this is that there is no system to give numbers to houses in many villages.
- In Bihar alone, more than 2 lakh 90 thousand voters have been found in front of the house number 0 or 00 or 000.
- In this, if the column in front of the house number is kept empty, then the computer does not accept that entry. Whereas on entering any imaginary number, the entry is recorded.
- Why the voters of hundreds of villages have house numbers 00, Bhaskar investigated it that during the 2011 census, numbers were also allotted to temporary houses in the villages.
- These numbers were not usually written by the villagers at their residence. The numbers given during the census to the booth level employees could not be found for this reason.
