The Supreme Court on Monday heard the petitions filed against SIR (Voter Verification). During the hearing, the court ordered the Election Commission that the Aadhaar card should be considered as the 12th document.

The court said in the order, ‘Aadhaar card is not proof of citizenship, but in the rules, Aadhaar has been included in the election process documents. In such a situation, the Commission should accept it as 12th document.
The Supreme Court also said that if there is any doubt about the Aadhaar card, then the Commission should investigate it.
Aadhaar will be considered a proof of identity
The judge made it clear that in addition to passport and birth certificate, no other documents of 11 documents can be considered as evidence of citizenship. Sibal proposed that Aadhaar be declared a 12th document.
The judge said, “Aadhaar is not a proof of citizenship, but it can be recognized as evidence of identity under the Representation of People Act.”
Commission is sending notices to BLO assuming Aadhaar
