The Supreme Court on Wednesday heard a petition related to air pollution in Delhi-NCR. The court directed the country’s pollution control agencies to prepare a policy to stop air pollution in three weeks before winter.
The bench of CJI BR Gawai and Justice of Vinod Chandran told the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and State Pollution Control Boards that every year the level of pollution in winter reaches dangerous levels in winter every year, so it is necessary to take steps in time.
The court reprimanded states like Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Punjab and Rajasthan. The bench said that the posts of vacant vacant posts in the pollution control boards of these states should be filled within three months. The next hearing will be held on 8 October.
Apart from this, the court also directed CAQM and CPCB to recruit the vacant posts here within 3 months. At the same time, 6 months time has been fixed for the recruitment related to promotion.
At the same time, the court said about the burning of stubble by the farmers- ‘The farmers who violate the government instructions not to burn the straw, why not take action against them? Only by imposing fine will not work, it is necessary to make farmers accountable.
The Supreme Court emphasized that farmers burning stubble should be excluded from the benefit of the minimum support price (MSP) system, because if a farmer burns the stubble while breaking the law, it should also be punished financially, it would not be sufficient to pay penalty or warning.
The court suggested that state governments should ensure that farmers are given machinery and give better options to them so that they can use other methods instead of burning stubble.
