Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan said, “If the Indian Air Force was used in the Indo-China war of 1962, the lead of China’s army could have been slowly slowed down.”

Government extended the term of CDS General Anil Chauhan
The central government on Wednesday increased the tenure of Chief of Defense Staff (CDS) General Anil Chauhan (64) to 8 months to 30 May 2026. General Chauhan’s term was scheduled to end on 30 September 2025. The age limit for CDS is 65 years and the government can also increase the period.
General Chauhan has been serving as Secretary of CDS and Department of Military Affairs since September 2022. CDS played an important role in strengthening the coordination of the three armies (Army, Navy, Air Force) in Operation Sindoor.
He has also focused on joint work and strategic plan in the army. General Chauhan took over the post of CDS after retiring from service in May 2021. He came to the post 9 months after the death of General Bipin Rawat.
His military career has been very prestigious. He has received commissions in 11 Gorkha Rifles in 1981 and experiences internal security campaigns in Jammu and Kashmir and North-East.
CDS Chauhan has been awarded several honors including Param Special Service Medal, Best War Service Medal, Ati Vishisht Seva Medal, Army Medal.
