The controversy over speaking Marathi before the local body elections in Mumbai is becoming a big political issue. Amid violence against Hindi -speaking people, Maharashtra Minister Ashish Shelar has described the Pahalgam terror attack and the beating of ‘Hindus’ in Mumbai as uniform.

Shelar did not take the name of Uddhav-Raj Thackeray on Sunday, saying that the state is watching how some leaders are ‘enjoying the beating of other Hindus’. His remarks came after the incident in which MNS workers beat up the owner of a sweet shop in Mumbai for not speaking Marathi.

Apart from this, on Saturday, MNS workers broke the glass doors of the office of the stock market investor Sushil Kedia at Worli’s office. Kedia challenged Raj Thackeray and said that he would not speak Marathi.

Here, Union Minister Ramdas Athawale has criticized the recent comments of MNS chief Raj Thackeray and described him as promoting ‘Dadagiri’ and demanded strict action against MNS workers.

Athawale said- Industries are closed due to such incidents

Union Minister Ramdas Athawale said that it is wrong to force people to speak Marathi. Strict action should be taken against the MNS workers involved in the violence. Athawale asked on Raj’s attitude that if the industries are closed due to such incidents, will they give employment to all.
