P Chidambaram, who was the Home Minister in the Manmohan government, has revealed that after the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack, I also had the idea of taking revenge, but the then Congress government of that time decided not to take military action.
17 years after the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, the former Union Home Minister said in an interview to a channel that the decision not to retaliate against Pakistan was taken due to international pressure and stance of the Ministry of External Affairs.

Chidambaram said- the whole world came to Delhi to stop us
Chidambaram told the news channel- “There was pressure of the whole world. We were being explained not to fight. The then US Secretary of State came to Delhi and he said- Please do not take action. Without revealing an official rule, I believe that I had a feeling of vengeance.”
I discussed the retaliation with the PM and other responsible people. The PM had discussed this during the attack. And the conclusion came out, which was under the influence of the Ministry of External Affairs and IFS that we should not respond physically.
BJP said- at that time the country was wrongly handled
Union Minister Prahlad Joshi has shared a clip of this interview on X. He wrote- The former Home Minister himself has accepted that the country already knew that the Mumbai attacks were wrongly handled due to pressure from foreign forces.
BJP spokesperson Shahzad Poonawala alleged that Chidambaram was at first hesitant to take over as Home Minister after the Mumbai attacks, he wanted military action on Pakistan, but other people were overshadowed.
He raised the question whether Congress President Sonia Gandhi or the then Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had stopped the move and alleged that the UPA government was seen working under the influence of Condoliza Rice.
