Geetanjali Angamo, wife of Ladakh environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk, wrote a letter to President Draupadi Murmu on Wednesday. He appealed that the President should understand the feelings of the people of Ladakh as a tribal.
Angmo has also sent this letter to PM Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. In the letter, Angamo has demanded unconditional release of Sonam Wangchuk. He has described Sonam as a peaceful Gandhian protestor who agitated for climate change and development of backward tribal areas.
Sonam Wangchuk was arrested after violent protests demanding state status to Ladakh. He was charged under the Rigorous National Security Act (NSA) and was sent to Jodhpur Central Jail.
There were violent demonstrations in Leh during the bandh called by Lab on 24 September. 4 people died in this. 50 people were detained on charges of rioting.

Demand for release of Wangchuk intensifies
Demand for the release of state status to Ladakh and other arrested youth including environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk has intensified. Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has said that the situation in Ladakh will not talk to the Center’s high rights committee until normal.
Leh Apex Body (Lab) has already announced not to talk. There were violent demonstrations in Leh during the bandh called by Lab on 24 September. 4 people died in this. 50 people were detained on charges of rioting.
Wangchuk, who became the face of the movement, has been arrested in NSA and sent to Jodhpur Jail. The Center called Lab and KDA for talks on 20 September.
Home Ministry said- Center ready to talk to Lab-KDA
- The Union Home Ministry said on Monday night that the Center is ready to communicate at any time with Lab and KDA on matters related to Ladakh. The Ministry of Home Affairs expressed confidence that negotiations would give positive results. The Lab has distanced a distance from the conversation till 6 October in protest against the clashes and arrests and has demanded the release of judicial investigation and environmental activist Sonam Wangchuk.
- The Kargil Democratic Alliance (KDA) has said that he will not join the conversation with the Center until Sonam Wangchuk’s release. KDA co -chairman Asghar Karbala said that the Center should order a judicial inquiry into Leh firing and release all the arrested people. Ladakh MP Mohammad Hanifa said that the people of Ladakh are angry at being told as anti-national.
7 hours relaxation in curfew in Leh
The curfew was relaxed in Curfew from 10 am on Tuesday morning in Leh city, which brought relief to the people. The curfew was relaxed from 10 am to 2 pm on Tuesday and was later extended. The official said that according to the situation, a decision will be taken to carry forward the relaxation.
Leh In addition, District Magistrate Ghulam Mohammad ordered to open all grocery goods, essential services, hardware and vegetable shops during the relaxation. Earlier, curfew was relaxed for two hours from 4 pm on Monday evening.
