Despite having strict laws to stop child marriage in the country, the situation is becoming worrying. According to the National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) report, in 2023 child marriage cases increased by six times compared to 2022.
The report states that 6,038 cases were registered in the year 2023, while in 2022 only 1,002 cases were registered and 1,050 cases were registered in 2021. In this way, there has been a sudden huge increase in cases related to child marriage in three years.
The maximum number of cases were registered in Assam, where 5,267 cases were reported alone. This is about 90% of the total cases recorded across the country. Apart from this, 174 cases were registered in Tamil Nadu, 145 in Karnataka and 118 in West Bengal.
