The Election Commission has announced a by -election in 8 assembly seats in 7 states. These seats will be voted on November 11, the results will come on 14 November. Elections are to be held in Budgam and Nagarota in Jammu and Kashmir, Anta in Rajasthan, Ghatsila (ST) in Jharkhand, Jubilee Hills of Telangana, Tarn Taran of Punjab, Dampa of Mizoram and Nuapada assembly seats in Odisha.
In Jammu and Kashmir, two assembly seats Badgam and Nagrota are vacant since October 2024. The Badgam seat was vacant soon after the 2024 assembly elections, when Chief Minister Omar Abdullah decided to keep the Ganderbal seat with him. This seat is vacant since October 21, 2024.
On the other hand, Nagrota seat was vacated on October 31, 2024 following the death of MLA Devendra Singh Rana.
Kanwarlal Meena’s legislature went after sentence in 20 year old case
The by -election will be held in Anta assembly seat of Baran district in Rajasthan. This seat was vacant after Kanwarlal Meena’s legislature.
Kanwarlal Meena was abolished from May after being convicted in a 20 -year -old case of pistol on SDM. In the 2023 assembly elections, Vasundhara Raje supporter Kanwarlal Meena defeated Pramod Jain Bhaya, who was a minister in the Congress government.

All parties in Punjab decided candidates
The Tarn Taran assembly seat of Punjab was vacant after the death of AAP MLA Kashmir Singh Sohal. For the Tarn Taran by -election in Punjab, 4 major parties Congress, AAP, Akali Dal and BJP have fielded their candidates. Among them, AAP has once again given a chance to Dalbadlu. CM Bhagwant Mann declared Harmeet Sandhu as a candidate on Friday.
He left the Akali Dal and joined the AAP. The Congress has nominated Karanbir Singh Burj from here. Burj has been the Vice President of Congress Kisan Sale and is a senior Congress leader in the district.
The BJP has appointed former Akali and Youth Akali leader Harjit Singh Sandhu as candidate. Shiromani Akali Dal has nominated Principal Sukhwinder Kaur Randhawa as a candidate in Tarn Taran by -election. He is identified as a prominent leader of “Azad Group”.

The seat was vacant after the death of BRS MLA Maganti Gopinath in June this year on Jubilee Hill seat of Telangana.
Dampa Assembly seat of Mizoram was vacated on July 21 after the death of MNF MLA Lalrintaluanga Sallo. The by -election for the Nuapada assembly seat in Odisha is vacant after the death of MLA Rajendra Dholakia on 8 September.
BJP can give Mau to Champai’s son in Jharkhand Ghatsila seat of Jharkhand is vacant by the death of MLA and former Education Minister Ramdas Soren.
Ghatshila assembly seat comes in East Singhbhum district and is reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST). There are a total of 2,49,212 voters, including 1,22,564 males, 1,26,649 female and 2 third gender. However, the final list of voters is yet to come.
Talking about the Ghatshila by -election, no party has announced its candidate yet. As JMM candidate, Somesh Soren, son of former Education Minister Ramdas Soren, is believed to be contesting.
Now the eyes are on the BJP. Will this time the BJP will again re -field Babulal Soren, son of former CM Champai Soren, in the Ghatshila by -election to be fought on a wave of sympathy again or will give a chance to someone else.
