Advocate Rakesh Kishore Kumar, accused of trying to throw a shoe at CJI Gawai in the Supreme Court, was released by Delhi Police late on Monday night. Delhi Police said that no complaints have been received from the Supreme Court officials and the lawyer has been released on their consent after talking to them. The lawyer was questioned for three hours. Meanwhile, officials of Delhi Police Security Unit and New Delhi Police questioned the lawyer in the Supreme Court itself.
The incident occurred when the CJI bench was hearing a case. Quoting the lawyers present in the court room, the news agency PTI said that the lawyer threw a shoe towards CJI. However, the shoe could not reach his bench. Security personnel immediately caught him.
After the incident, the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) has canceled the license of the accused lawyer. Its registration is from 2011. Along with this, the Bar Council of India (BCI) also immediately suspended the accused.
