The reason behind Puran Kumar’s suicide is believed to be the bribery case registered against his gunman Sushil in Rohtak. The gunman was arrested after registering a case for demanding a monthly bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh from a liquor contractor. Rohtak SP Narendra Bijarania confirmed that Sushil had taken the name of IG Puran Kumar during interrogation.
A few days ago, Puran was removed from the field duty of Rohtak Range IG and sent to the Police Training Centre, which is considered as a punishment post in the department. According to Chandigarh Police, the reason for suicide is not clear yet. The police spokesperson definitely said that the police have found a will and a final note near the dead body of Puran Kumar. However, the police have not shared details about what the IG wrote in them before the suicide.
The case of Rohtak which was linked to suicide Liquor contractor Praveen Bansal, resident of Sector 2, Rohtak, had complained that IG Puran Kumar’s gunman Sushil Kumar was demanding a monthly bribe of Rs 2.5 lakh. He had also submitted CCTV and call recording as evidence. He complained about this several times. At that time Y Puran Kumar was the IG of Rohtak range. But, no action was taken.
Meanwhile, on September 29, Puran was removed from Rohtak IG and posted at Police Training College (PTC), Sunaria. After this, FIR number 319 was registered in the corruption case against gunman Sushil Kumar, resident of Yamunanagar, in the Urban Estate police station of Rohtak. Rohtak SP claims that Sushil had taken the name of Y Puran Kumar during interrogation.
There was also discussion about suicide note, police said it was the final note. When Puran’s suicide was revealed, it was also discussed that a 9-page suicide note was found there. In which the names of one current senior IPS and 2 former IPS officers are there. However, no one has confirmed this yet. Chandigarh Police also said in the formal media release that apart from the will, a final note has been found from them, the police did not say anything about whether it is being considered as a suicide note or not.

Shot in basement, daughter saw dead body Y Puran Kumar lived in Kothi number 116 in Sector-11, Chandigarh. Puran Kumar and his younger daughter were at home on Tuesday. Father and daughter were on the ground floor in the morning. After some time, Puran Kumar got up and went to the basement of the house while the daughter got busy with some work. After reaching the basement, Puran Kumar sat on the chair lying there, placed the pistol on his temple and pressed the trigger. He died on the spot. The incident came to light when the daughter went to the basement after some time. Seeing his father’s body and blood, he immediately informed the police control room.
Chandigarh Police said- We received a call at 1:30 According to Chandigarh Police spokesperson, a suicide call was received at Sector 11 police station at 1.30 pm on Tuesday. Immediately police officers reached the spot. The body was in the basement room of the house. He had a bullet wound on his head. The deceased was identified as Y Puran Kumar, a 2001 batch Haryana Police officer. Forensic team was called. Videography and photography of the incident site was done. The pistol was also seized from the spot. The body was taken into custody and sent for postmortem to the Government Medical College and Hospital located in Sector 16.
