Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate the first phase of Navi Mumbai International Airport on Wednesday. The first phase has a terminal and a runway, it has a capacity of 2 crore passengers annually. PM Modi will arrive on a 2 -day Mumbai tour at 3 pm on Wednesday.
His aircraft will land at Navi Mumbai International Airport itself. PM will inaugurate the first phase of the airport at 3:30 pm. At the same time, PM Modi will also inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line-3 and the first completely under ground metro line of Mumbai.
Navi Mumbai Airport Terminal has been developed in lotus design. Regular flights will start from December. This will be the second international airport in Mumbai. It is named after farmer leader DB Patil.
Navi Mumbai International Airport is being built in about 1,160 hectares (11.6 sq km) at a cost of ₹ 19,500 crore. Which will be made in many phases. Four terminals are to be built in this project, which will provide service to 9 crore passengers annually and will be able to take 32.5 lakh metric tonnes of cargo.
Adani Group’s 74% stake in the airport
The Navi Mumbai International Airport is being built by the Adani Group and the Land Development Authority (CIDCO) of the Government of Maharashtra. The Adani Group holds a 74% stake in it and CIDCO has a 26% stake.
Navi Mumbai Airport is near Jawaharlal Nehru Port and Mumbai Trans-Harber Link, which will help to meet the need for rising air travel in Mumbai.
Farmer leader DB Patil is named
Navi Mumbai International Airport is named after farmer leader DB Patil. Patil was a prominent farmer leader who fought for the rights of farmers and local people in Maharashtra.
It was Patil who fought for the rights of the displaced villagers during the land acquisition for the Navi Mumbai International Airport Project.

The first phase of Navi Mumbai Airport is India’s largest Greenfield Airport Project, which is made in public and private participation (PPP).
Lotus -like design in the terminal has 12 beautiful and 17 strong pillars that support the roof.
Navi Mumbai Airport will be unique for the environment. It will have electric bus service and the country’s first water taxi connection.
The airport will have an automated Peepal Mover (APM) service, which will connect the airport to all terminals and the city.

These new facilities will be available at Navi Mumbai Airport
New facilities at Navi Mumbai Airport include the facility of completing immigration at the airport itself for travelers coming from cities like Ahmedabad, Surat and Hyderabad, the country’s first water taxi connection, electric bus service, 47 MW, 47 MW solar power, use of environment-friendly fuel and automated peepal mover (APM) coupled to all terminals.
It will take 2 months to start the airport
It will take more than 2 months to open Navi Mumbai Airport, that is, it will start till December last. The reason behind this- after the opening, it will have to undergo an ORAT test. It is investigated in the real situation of check-in, baggage, security and air traffic system. The aim of this is that flights should be safe and operated without any hassle from day one.
PM Modi will inaugurate metro line-3
PM will also inaugurate the Metro Line-3 (Aqua Line) built at a cost of ₹ 37,270 crore on Wednesday. This is the first entire underground metro line in Mumbai.
PM will also inaugurate Phase 2B of Mumbai Metro Line-3, which extends from Acharya Atre Chowk to Kafee Parade. It has been constructed for about ₹ 12,200 crore. Along with this, the metro line-3 (Aqua line) made at a cost of ₹ 37,270 crore will also be inaugurated. This is the first entire underground metro line in Mumbai.
‘Mumbai One’ app and skill training program will also be launched
PM Modi will launch a mobility app named “Mumbai One”, which will connect metro, monorail, bus and railway services. Passengers will get digital ticket booking, travel updates and safety facilities from the app. Also, the Step Skill Training Program will start, which will have 2,500 batch, women and new techniques will include training, which will increase employment and skills.
