The Supreme Court will today hear the petition demanding a CBI investigation in the Karur stampede case. It will also hear the petition of Actor Vijay’s Party (TVK), in which the Madras High Court’s direction to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been challenged.
Madras High Court had formed SIT on October 3 to investigate. After this, TVK had filed a petition in the Supreme Court saying that it is not right to conduct the investigation only by Tamil Nadu Police. The investigation should be conducted by an independent agency under the supervision of the Supreme Court.
At the same time, BJP leader Uma Anandan has demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter. The Supreme Court bench of Justice JK Maheshwari and Justice NV Anjaria will hear both the petitions.
In fact, on September 27, 41 people were killed and more than 100 were injured in a stampede at actor Vijay’s rally in Karur, Tamil Nadu. 7 PILs related to this matter were listed.
On October 4, the Madras High Court, while hearing the case, reprimanded the actor and the party. After this, TVK chief Vijay spoke to the families of those killed on video call.

TVK said- High Court’s comment is inappropriate
The party had said in the Supreme Court that the High Court’s comment that Vijay and his party went away after the incident and did not express grief is one-sided and unfair. Also objecting to the SIT formed by the High Court, it had said that only state police officers are included in it.
TVK has also alleged that the stampede could be the result of a conspiracy by some mischievous elements.
October 4- High Court said – Party cannot escape responsibility
On October 4, the Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court had rejected the petitions demanding a CBI investigation. At the same time, a notice was issued to the Stalin government on the petition demanding additional compensation amount. The next hearing of the case here will be on October 16.
Also, Madras High Court has constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the Karur stampede. It is being led by Inspector General (IG) of Tamil Nadu Police, Asra Garg.

Vijay had said- take revenge from me, not from my people
Vijay Thalapathi had released a video on September 30. In this, Vijay said, “Is CM Stalin trying to take revenge? We did not do anything wrong. If you want to take revenge then come to me. I will meet you at home or in the office. My party officials have been arrested by the police. I appeal to the CM to please do not harm my party officials.”
