On Azam Khan’s taunting of Quaid and Aalim Fazil, he said, ‘I do not consider myself a leader, I am just a small servant of the mosque, call it a lota of the mosque. Whatever you use for the mosque, it is less. Special interview of Mohibullah Nadvi with Dainik Bhaskar…read what he said…

Question: You are MP from Rampur, did you meet Azam Khan?

Nadvi: Azam Khan is a big leader of the party. Even when he was in jail, our prayers continued. When he was released, we sent him a message that we wanted to meet. No reply came.

Sent a message to his son Abdullah, but did not get any reply. The way the people of Rampur chose an Imam after Maulana Azad, we felt that he would be blessed with blessings, but that did not happen.

As far as we have ever met before, we have eaten together once or twice, I remember that. It is not at all possible that both the people do not know each other. This would be impractical.

Question: What is the reason for resentment?

Nadvi: Only Allah can know what is the reason for displeasure? And I am surprised that at this time there are so many issues in the whole of India, taking them aside, the issue of my own caste seems to be the most important. How did the Imam of a mosque born in a village become the MP of Rampur? Our elders migrated here several hundred years ago. The people there know me.

Question: Do you feel troubled by the tone Azam is using?

Nadvi: It is obvious that such things from such a very responsible man… He is an elderly man, will he be hurt?

Question: Any kind of fear or dread?

Nadvi: No, who would be afraid? We are afraid of Allah. There is no fear in the blood that is inside us. When Jaya Prada won the elections from here, she was harassed. While she was also in the party. Some people are dreaming of scaring and threatening Maulana Saheb.

This dream is being seen by those people whose races are not from here but have come and settled from other districts. All these methods are not right, there are very petty actions that will make things worse. It will be very bad. Who are you threatening? In this tone. at this age? Talking too much is also a disease.

Question: Would you like to give any message to Azam Khan on your behalf?

Nadvi: He became an MP, but could not complete the term. There was also some disagreement with some beloved. I don’t know completely. However, he is our senior leader. The party had helped him in every matter and is still helping him. Akhilesh Yadav is also standing with him.

I am a small soldier of the party. I am a servant (servant) of the people of Rampur. I am also a servant of the mosque. Along with this, Ziaur Rahman Burke, the grandson of Shafiqur Rahman Burke, speaks very well. In the Sambhal case, for the first time there was a discussion in the Parliament regarding a riot. Similarly, Iqra Hassan is there, see how much etiquette and manners she has.

Thank God, I thank the people of Rampur, I thank the party leadership for giving me the opportunity to serve. Now whether someone accepts this whole heartedly or not, it will not affect my caste.

Before proceeding further, take part in the poll and give your opinion-

Question: How did you feel when Akhilesh left you in Bareilly and went to your parliamentary constituency Rampur alone?

Nadvi: See, Akhilesh Yadav is respectable for all of us. He is the head of the third largest party in the country’s politics. I am personally dissatisfied with his behavior not only with me, but also with other MPs and MPs of other parties as well as with the general public.

When I was asked to stay in Bareilly, I remembered that the Nawabs of Rampur used to have their own laws. Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar had come to Rampur with Gandhiji. At that time it was obligatory for the Nawabs to wear a cap. B Amma, who was the mother of Mohammed Ali Johar, stitched the cap, then he got a chance to go there.

I understand that when a person represents a place for a long time, such things happen. But, it needs to be remembered that that period was different. In democratic culture, the public is the king, it is they who wear the crown and they are the ones who remove the crown. Where did the Nawab come from, no one came from above. After coming to this land he became Nawab.

I feel sad that people had to wait so long. Not a single medical college could be built in Rampur. Even today Sir Ganga Ram is known for good treatment. Even after 75 years of independence, there is not a single medical college in a population of 20 lakhs. Who is responsible for this? There was a time when Rampur was counted among the most prosperous districts after Kanpur, today the situation is that the revenue of Rampur is less than that of Tanda. Textile work stopped, sugarcane mills closed, Urdu language stopped. Madrasa Aliya was closed. How many cemeteries were destroyed? Landuses of how much land changed?

Question: As an MP, where do you see yourself compared to Azam Khan?

Nadvi: God owes me a favor. Party’s national president Akhilesh Yadav gave him a chance to speak on issues like Waqf. He said, this is a religious matter, Imam Saheb will speak on it. I was kept in JPC also, it was a matter of honor for me. The speaker asked which term is this of yours? I said- It is the first term, on this Om Birla said that your speech does not seem to be for the first time.

Question: There were many big personalities in Rampur, do you consider Azam Khan Saheb as a big leader?

Nadvi: There is no doubt that Azam Khan is a great leader. There are many qualities within him also. His dream of a university also came true. May God do better. It is the wish of all of us that everything should go better and go on in a normal manner. We want that a university should be built in our district and it should run better. God forbid that this should not be lost.

Question: Will you contest from Rampur only or from some other seat in the next elections?

Nadvi: There is a lot of time for the next elections. The party and the people of Rampur will decide who will fight. Whatever time we have got, we are spending it as a form of worship. There is very little time. People have many needs. People’s expectations are high. Most of the MLAs here also belong to other parties, whose support is less.

Question: Azam Khan told Dainik Bhaskar that Maulana should go to Bareilly, will you accept his opinion?

Nadvi: Look, I am needed everywhere. Sometimes things happen in which links are found. It seems as if someone has snatched away the happiness of the people in Rampur. We have to pay attention to this.

Question: When did you last go to Rampur and when will you go now?

Nadvi: I was in Rampur on 6th October. Participated in different programs. Akhilesh Yadav had called on 8th, stayed with him. I will go to Rampur again in the next two-three days.

Question: You are the Imam of the Parliament Mosque and also an MP, how do you handle the dual responsibility?

Nadvi: I stay here for three days, I stay there for three days. Rampur is a two and a half hour drive from here. Many times people also come here. I am also leaving, there is no problem anywhere.

Question: SP people came to the mosque, the opposition raised the issue. Don’t you think mosques should be kept away from politics?

Nadvi: Mosque is the most important place for the people of faith. During the time of Rasool Allah, all business was done from the mosque only. But as Deen-e-Islam started emerging from the people, people stopped paying attention to it and things reached this point. There was a time when the Imam of time used to be the ruler of time.

Question: How do you view the controversy surrounding ‘I Love Mohammed’?

Nadvi: This was a well-planned conspiracy of some people to harass the Muslims. This was a conspiracy to destroy houses, shops, temples and run bulldozers on schools and mosques of Muslims. All these are against the law. The people who are doing this are against the Constitution.

Question: It has been one and a half years since you became the MP of Rampur, according to you, what has been the biggest achievement so far?

Nadvi: My first demand in Parliament House was that a hospital rival to AIIMS should be opened here. Because including the surrounding areas and districts like Bareilly, Sambhal, Moradabad, Badaun, the population here is 1.5 crore. Most of them are people from Rampur, who lose their lives due to lack of treatment.

It is a great regret. We have just come to this line. The time is also such that we neither have a government at the Center nor in the state. I wish people before us had taken some initiative. Perhaps the people before us did not understand the need for this.
