Another medical student has become a victim of rape in West Bengal. The incident took place right in front of a private medical college in Durgapur, 170 km from Kolkata. The victim is a resident of Jaleshwar, Odisha, and was studying MBBS second year here.
According to the police, the student had gone out for dinner with her friend between 8-9 pm on Friday night. At that time, three youths were standing at the campus gate. They first snatched the girl’s mobile. Then they dragged her by the hair into the forest in front of the campus gate, where she gang-raped them.
During this time the girl’s friend ran away. He informed the police about the incident. The victim is currently admitted in a private hospital. While the accused are absconding.
The victim’s parents alleged the girl’s friend and his associates were involved in the incident. After which the police has taken the boy friend into custody.
Deputy Magistrate and SDO Durgapur, Ranjana Roy, after meeting the Durgapur Medical College gangrape case victim, said that her condition is stable and her mother is with her. Roy said that the victim is getting full support and assured action.
The student said – the accused asked for money to return the phone
The student had gone out of the college around 8:30 to 9 pm. While returning at around 10 pm, the gang rape incident took place. The girl’s parents were informed about the matter late at night. They reached Durgapur this morning and registered a case against unknown people at Durgapur New Township police station.
According to the police, the student told that when three people blocked her path, her friend left her alone. The accused then snatched her phone and took her to the forest, where all three raped her.
The accused also threatened the student of dire consequences if she told anyone about the incident. Then he also asked for money to return his mobile phone. Police said that they have recorded the statement of the victim student.
Police said that the victim’s friend has also been interrogated last night. Checking CCTV footage. A forensic team will visit the spot to collect evidence. So far no accused has been identified or arrested in the case. Medical college employees are also being interrogated.
