Two senior officers of the Public Works Department of Assam Government have been arrested in the suicide case of a junior employee. Joshita Das, a female assistant engineer of PWD, who hails from Guwahati and posted in Bongigaon, was found dead in her apartment on Tuesday. He named these two senior in the suicide note.

The note claimed that she was facing a lot of stress in her office. The police have arrested both. One is an executive engineer of PWD and the other is a sub -divisional officer.

Both were transferred this month. Executive Engineer was promoted and sent to Nalbari, while sub -divisional officer was transferred to Kamrup.

Two accused Dinesh Sarma Madhi and Aminul Islam, arrested from Guwahati, were produced in Bongaigaon court on 23 July.

Officials had pressurized to pass fake bills

Another officer said on the condition of anonymity- he said in the note that the two arrested officers put a lot of pressure on the construction of a mini stadium in Bongaigaon. He also alleged that he pressured him to pass the bills given exaggerated by a contractor.

In the note, Josita has told how the two officers pressured the Mini Stadium Project of a contractor to pass the bill of a contractor in Borusozgaon under Gosaigaon LAC, while the documents had serious flaws. The project of Messrs Achatic Creations lacked architectural plans and important records.

He also informed that the contractor Rudra Pathak did not appoint a site engineer, due to which the fate of technical responsibilities had to be handled themselves. Despite repeated appeal, he did not get any help. He alleged that architect Debjit Sharma presented an estimate of errors, which he marked without any conclusion.

Mother lodged a complaint

After the death of Josita, his mother lodged a police complaint. He accused the two officials of constant harassment. Her mother said, “She often talked about unbearable pressure of work. This was mentally broken.
