First story: King had to go to Tihar Jail

Section 144 in Bharatpur for the first time

After the death of Maharaja Kishan Singh of Bharatpur, his eldest son Brijendra Singh sat on the throne in 1939. He had three younger brothers Girendraraj Singh, Mansingh and Giriraj Sharan Singh.

According to the book ‘History of Bharatpur and Swatantra Sangram of Bharatpur’, merger (integration) was announced on 28 February 1948 to Matsya Sangh of Bharatpur, Alwar, Dholpur and Karauli.

Alwar was to be made the capital of the Matsya Sangh. This announcement was opposed in the princely state of Bharatpur. There were agitations against the merger. Prohibition was implemented in the city on 15 March 1948.

On 15 March 1948, Sardar Patel came to Alwar by airplane. He had said while addressing the public meeting- If anyone feels that the Government of India is weak and they will intimidate it and make them an independent state, then I warns them that we are capable of combating any nation of the world.

The effect of this warning was that two days later, Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur and Karauli had accepted the merger in the Union of India by forming the United States Fisheries (United States of Fisheries).

Madras Regiment of Indian Army surrounds Bharatpur The inauguration ceremony of the Matsya state was to be held on 18 March 1948. It was decided that the inauguration would be held in Bharatpur and the princely flag would be launched.

In view of the possibility of rebellion, the Government of India sent the army’s Madras Regiment Bharatpur. The army patrolled jeeps and tanks in Bharatpur, Deeg and Kumher. Thakur Deshraj Singh was arrested for provoking people and sent to Sever Jail.

Raja Mansingh’s dispute with Union Minister The then Union Minister Narhari Vishnu (NV) came here by airplane to hoist the tricolor in Bharatpur. Many people opposed it.

Historian Mahendra Singh Sikarwar said that there was a discussion with NV Gadgil in this regard of Raja Mansingh in the circuit house. He argued that the Matsya state capital is Alwar. In such a situation, it is wrong to inaugurate in Bharatpur and remove the princely flag.

There was a lot of debate between the two. After this, at the behest of the Union Minister, Mansingh was arrested and sent to Tihar Jail. Also, Bharatpur entry was banned for 6 months.

It also did not have any effect. After this, Maharaja Brijendra Singh was celebrated to calm this protest.

With his advice, the nominated state head of the fishermen and the then Dholpur King Maharaja Udayabhanu Singh went to Sever Jail. Freedom fighters Thakur Deshraj Singh rescued and brought out. Deshraj Singh pacified the people.

The national flag tricolor was hoisted with the flag of Bharatpur in Kishori Mahal in collaboration with Thakur Deshraj Singh. The then Union Minister Narhari Vishnu Gadgil inaugurated the Matsya kingdom.

In the 1985 assembly elections, the Congress had fielded the former IAS against Raja Mansingh, who has been becoming MLAs for 7 consecutive times.

On 21 February 1985, the then CM Shivcharan Mathur was scheduled to reach Deeg to address the election meeting in favor of the Congress candidate. A day before this, some workers took off the flag of the royal family on Deeg Mahal at night.

When King Mansingh came to know about this, he took his jeep and went towards the venue. On the way, the gates and gatherings built to welcome the CM were broken by a jeep collision.

After this, he reached the helipad made at Higher Secondary School and hit the CM’s helicopter with a jeep. However, CM Mathur was not in the helicopter then.

None of the policemen standing there dared to stop and catch Raja Mansingh. Rather some policemen were saluting him.
