The Election Commission (EC), Tuesday i.e. today will release the final list of Special Intensive Revision (SIR). It is estimated that about 7.3 crore voters will be included in this final list. The names of about 14 lakh new voters can also be added to them.

According to EC, the SIR process was started from June 2025. In this, 7.89 crore registered voters were filled again. After this, the list was released on 1 August, in which the names of 65 lakh voters were cut.
These 65 million people are voters who have died or have gone out permanently. Some of these people were also those who had 2 voter IDs. With the release of the final list, election preparations will intensify.

SIR process started from 24 June 2025
The SIR process went on for the first time since 2003 in Bihar. It was started on 24 June 2025. Its main objective was to remove foreign nationals like fake, repeated and transferred voters from the list and add new qualified voters.
Under this, forms were taken from 7.24 crore voters. The first phase of SIR was completed by 25 July 2025, with 99.8% coverage.
According to the data, 2.2 million voters have died. 36 lakh voters were not found at their homes. 7 lakh people have become permanent residents of a new place.

SC orders Aadhaar to consider Aadhaar as 12th documents
Initially 11 documents were valid in Sir, Bihar, but on September 8, the Aadhaar number has been considered as the 12th document following the Supreme Court directive. The Supreme Court had said, ‘Aadhaar is a certificate of identity, not citizenship. The court ordered the Election Commission to be considered as 12th document for the identity of the voter.

Why opposition is protesting
The opposition alleges that this process is conspiring to deprive people of voting rights. The opposition says that since 2003, at least 5 elections have been held in Bihar in about 22 years, so were all those elections wrong.
If the Election Commission had to sir, then why was it announced in late June. How and why it was decided. Even if it is believed that SIR is needed, then it could be done comfortably after Bihar elections. Why was it decided to do it in such a hurry.

SIR will be across the country like Bihar
The EC said on 18 September that the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) will be on the lines of Bihar across the country, but in most states, more than half of the voters will not need to show any kind of document. This is because his names are included in the voter list of the previous Sir.
Most of the places this process was between 2002 and 2004. Those whose names were in the voter list of the time, they will not have to give any new paper to prove their date of birth or birthplace. Those who want to become new voters have to fill the declaration form. In this, they have to tell when they are born in India. People born after 1987 will have to show parents’ documents.
