DGP Gaurav Yadav informed that both the arrested accused were working on the instructions of the handlers sitting in the UK, America and Europe. They were conspiring to target government offices and programs using grenade.

The arrested accused have been identified as Harpreet Singh alias Preet, resident of village Bhullad in Tarn Taran district and Gulshan Singh alias Nandu, resident of village Rampura in Amritsar district.

The action took place just one day before the Independence Day and two days after the incident when the Punjab Police arrested 5 members of the BKI module from Tonk and Jaipur districts of Rajasthan, including 3 minors, and recovered an 86P hand grenade and a .30 bore pistol from them.

Handlers were sending messages from abroad

DGP Gaurav Yadav said that preliminary investigation has revealed that the arrested accused were working on the instructions of their foreign-based handlers sitting in UK, US and Europe. The investigation has also revealed that these accused were conspiring to dissolve the peace and harmony of the state by targeting government buildings and police establishments using grenade.

AIG CI Ferozepur Gursevak Singh Brar said that on the basis of concrete intelligence information, the teams of CI Ferozepur arrested Harpreet Singh and Gulshan Singh from Talwandi Bhai of Ferozepur by conducting intelligence operation. The police have achieved remand of both and the inquiry is expected to get more information about their contacts and possible marks in the country and abroad.

In this case, an FIR has been registered under Section 25, 4 and 5 of the Arms Act in Police Station SSOC Fazilka.

Two hand grenades recovered

During the arrest, the police have recovered two hand grenades, a bereta 9mm pistol and 5 live cartridges from his possession. Officials say that a major terrorist attack was stopped by taking timely action, which averted a serious threat to Independence Day celebrations and the security of Punjab.
