The Election Commission will soon set the date of special intensive revision (SIR) of the voter list across the country. According to officials, this process may begin before the end of the year. The aim of the Commission is that illegal migrants should be removed from the voter list and no qualified citizens are left out.
On Wednesday, a meeting of Chief Election Officers of the states took place in Delhi. It said that there are assembly elections in 5 states (Assam, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala and Puducherry) next year. Therefore, the process of SIR can start soon. It was also decided in the meeting that the documents required to add names to the voter list will be made easier.
