The Delhi High Court has sought answers from the Central Government for not joining the Indian Military Academy (IMA), Naval Academy (IMA) and Air Force Academy (AFA) through CDS (Combined Defense Services) Examination.
A bench of Chief Justice of High Court Devendra Kumar Upadhyay said on Wednesday,

Women officers are not getting permanent jobs in the army. This matter is serious and the central government will have to answer this. The next hearing will be held in November 2025.
The petition has been filed by advocate Kush Kalra. He said in the petition that on May 28, 2025, UPSC took out an advertisement for CDS-II examination, which allowed women to apply only in OTA (Officers Training Academy, Chennai), while only men have been included in the remaining three academies.
IMA, AFA and INA get permanent and short service commission from OTA
Officers passing through IMA, AFA and INA get a permanent job i.e. permanent commission. At the same time, officers coming out of OTA only get a short service commission, which is a 10 -year job and can be increased by 4 years if needed. IMA, AFA and INA have about 18 months of training, while OTA has only 49 weeks of training.

Petitioner said- violation of constitutional rightsThe petitioner says that not giving entry into IMA, INA and AFA to women through CDS is a violation of Article 14 (Right to Equality) of the Constitution, Article 16 (equal opportunity in public employment), and Article 19 (1) (G) (Right to choose the profession of choice).
In petition Referring to Supreme Court decisions The petition mentions the historic decision of 2020, in which the Supreme Court said that women military officers should get equal rights for permanent commission and command posting.
Apart from this, the petitioner gave a reference for his own 2021 case, in which the Supreme Court had allowed women to appear in the NDA examination for the first time. After this, in December 2021, 19 women got admission in NDA and the first female batch passout from IMA.
Asked- Women participate in the army so why not completely in CDS? The petition also states that when the participation of women in the army is increasing and they are coming in command and combat rolls, it is a completely discriminatory and without any concrete reason for women to get out of better participation in CDS.
Women are not directly included in the fight
Another important difference is that women may currently be recruited in OTA, while IMA and INA have not yet been included. In the old policies of the army, they are limited to non -combat roles only. That is, women are not directly included in the fight.
