The central government has released the second installment of the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) to Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to help flood affected states. On the recommendation of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Punjab for FY 2025-26 to Rs 240 crore and Himachal Pradesh Rs 198 crore

This amount has been released to speed up relief and rescue operations in flood affected areas. The Center has instructed the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to immediately deposit this amount in the accounts of the governments of the respective states so that it can be used on time.

Life was affected by floods in both states According to the ministry, this step has been taken to ensure that there is no obstruction in the ongoing relief and rehabilitation works in the flood affected areas. Life has been affected due to continuous rains and floods in both Punjab and Himachal states for the last few days.

The central government has assured that additional help will also be provided to the states if required, so that relief can be provided to the affected families as soon as possible. About 4 lakh acres of land in Punjab was ruined due to flooding. At the same time, there are some villages which have been completely cut off of Punjab, where the way to go is only a bath.
