Former Union Minister P. Chidambaram said Operation Blue Star, launched in June 1984 to flush out militants from the Golden Temple in Amritsar, was the “wrong approach”. The then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi paid the price of this mistake with her life. However, this decision was not of Indira Gandhi alone.

This is the second big statement in the last 6 months on Operation Blue Star. Earlier on May 4, a video of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had gone viral. In this he was seen saying that Operation Blue Star of 1984 was a mistake. Whatever mistakes Congress committed in the 80s, I am ready to take responsibility.

Without insulting any military officer, I want to say that that was the wrong way to get the Golden Temple back. After a few years we showed the right way to get it back without the army. Blue Star was the wrong approach and I believe that Mrs. Gandhi paid the price for that mistake with her life.

Chidambaram said- The real problem of Punjab is its economic condition.
