The Congress will organize ‘OBC leadership partnership justice conference’ at Delhi’s Talkatora Stadium. It will include Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi.
Regarding the program, the Congress wrote in the social media platform X that today the right of OBC is being taken away. OBC is not getting participation. The more population, the more share is our right. Which we will take.
The purpose of this program is to increase participation in OBC politics and to advance the demand for caste census.
Actually, Rahul Gandhi is constantly raising questions about the participation of OBC in the country. He says that OBC, Dalits and Adivasis with 90% of the country’s population are not getting their rights. Caste census is an easy way to know in what position the lower castes, backward castes and Dalits are.
Rahul said in America in the year 2024;-
Look at the Supreme Court of the country, they have no participation. Look in the media, there are no lower castes, OBC, Dalits. Therefore caste census is necessary.
Rahul made this statement during the US tour in 2024.
Rahul said- Congress weakened on OBC issues, BJP got a chance Rahul Gandhi on Thursday admitted that in the last 10-15 years, the Congress could not understand the problems of OBC properly, which gave the BJP a place.
In a program organized on Telangana caste survey 2024, Rahul said, “The party was in the right direction on the issues of Dalits, tribals and women, but we were left behind to understand the aspirations of the OBC class.”
Taking a dig at the Center, Rahul said that the government does not want to break the limit of 50% reservation, because the truth will end the BJP’s ideology.
There will be a caste census for the first time after independence in the country
On 30 April 2025, the cabinet committee of political subjects decided to conduct caste census. Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav told the media that the calculation of castes will now be included in the original census.
Ashwini Vaishnav said,
Caste census was not done since 1947. Congress governments always opposed caste census. In 2010, PM Manmohan Singh said that the matter of caste census should be considered in the cabinet. A group of ministers was formed for this. Most political parties recommended caste census. Despite this, the Congress only did the work of Khanapurti. He thought it only appropriate to conduct a survey.
Actually, there has been a total of 8 times ethnic census in the country. Between 1872 and 1931, 7 times in the British period and once in 2011 in independent India. However, the 2011 ethnic census figures were not made public.
Census will begin from October-2026 The Ministry of Home Affairs has issued a notification for the census on 16 June. The central government will make ethnic in two phases. According to the notification, the first phase will start from 1 October 2026. This includes 4 hill states- Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The second phase will start from 1 March 2027. In this, census will start in the rest of the states of the country.
