A petition has been filed in the Supreme Court in Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. The petition has demanded a CBI inquiry into the case and an inquiry into the security of drugs across the country.
Advocate Vishal Tiwari has demanded in the petition that the court should direct the government to form the National Judicial Commission or Expert Committee and the investigation should be under the supervision of the Supreme Court’s retired judge.
So far 19 children have died due to drinking phlegm syrup in Madhya Pradesh and 4 children in Rajasthan. After the matter came to light, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Punjab have banned the sale and use of this syrup.
At the same time, in the case, the Drugs Control Department of Tamil Nadu has issued a show cause notice to the company making syrup. This medicine is made by Kanchipuram company Srison Pharmaceuticals. The government has sought answers from the company within five days.

Poison in the syrup of two Gujarat companies
At the same time, samples of two companies making phlegm syrup have also found high amounts of poisonous Diathillin Glacol (DEG) and Ethylene Glacol (EG). Samples of 19 drugs were taken from Chhindwara.
There has been a disturbance in Gujarat’s Releiff Syrup and Respifte TR Syrup. Stocks and sale of these two syrups have been banned in Madhya Pradesh. The Gujarat government has also written a letter for investigation.
More than 350 disturbances found in Coldrif’s factory
Earlier, the Tamil Nadu government’s inquiry committee had found more than 350 disturbances in the factory of Srisan Pharmaceuticals, which made coldfronts. Those who were placed in critical and major category.
9 important things of investigation report …
- The company did not have qualified and trained employees to make medicines.
- The factory was very dirty, there was neither cleanliness nor the right ventilation system.
- Many machines were broken and rusted.
- Essential security equipment such as air handling units were not installed in the factory.
- Chemicals of inferior and non-pharma quality were used to make medicines.
- The company bought a 50 kg propylene glycol without a bill.
- The drug found a poisonous chemical named Diathylene Glycol (DEG).
- Liquid drugs were being transferred from plastic pipes, causing drug dirty.
- There was no system of filtering medicines in the factory. The dirty water of the chemical was being released directly into the drains.
48% poison in Coldrif Syrup made in Tamil Nadu
Coldrif Syrup (batch number SR-13) was seized from the unit of Srisan Pharmaceutical located in Sunguvarcharam in Kanchipuram district. Investigation revealed that it used non-pharmacopia grade propylene glycol, which was probably contaminated with Diathylene Glycol (DEG) and Ethylene Glycol. Both chemical kidneys are poisonous substances.
As soon as the samples were sent to the government drugs testing lab of Chennai, a report was given in 24 hours. It was found that this batch of Coldrif Syrup is 48.6% W/V deg is poisonous and ‘NOT of Standard Quality’. While the other four drugs (Respolite D, GL, ST and Hepsandin Syrup) were found to be of standard quality.
