Scholars compared the calculations of different almanacs regarding the date of Diwali. It was decided that Diwali should be celebrated on 20 October all over the country. The members of the council said- The almanacs in which Diwali have been described on October 21 are not correct according to theology and traditions.

All the almanacs also agree with this. This decision has been issued for the whole country. This year, some almanacs have made a mistake. There will be no such mistakes from next year i.e. 2026. All almanac will publish such date festivals with uniformity.

Why Diwali will not be celebrated on 21 October
The meeting of the Kashi Vidyavat Parishad was chaired by Professor Rambdra Pandey. During this time, scholars made it clear that Amavasya is fully prevalent till Pradoshkal on 20 October in 2025. This time is considered necessary for Lakshmi Pujan.
However, on 21 October, Amavasya is up to three stars, but on that day Gamini Pratipada lasts for three and a half stars. This means that the passage of new food (food) will not be done according to the scripture. In such a situation, Diwali will not be celebrated completely correctly on this day.

Special importance of Lakshmi Pujan on Diwali
Lakshmi Pujan has special significance in the house on Diwali. It is believed that if Lakshmi is worshiped in the house, there is happiness and barkat in the house. In the houses where Lakshmi has a brass or silver statue, she should be duly worshiped daily.
There are not only religious reasons behind this, but psychology is also associated. It inspires us to earn money and use it properly. It is also considered necessary to have Ganpati with Lakshmi in the temple. The reason for this is that Lakshmi is the goddess of wealth and Ganesha is the god of intellect. If there is Lakshmi in the house, then the people there can use the intellect and use them properly.
Some rules of Lakshmi Pujan are also mentioned in the scriptures. If worshiped daily while following these rules, then Lakshmi’s permanent residence is in the house. Friday is considered to be the special day of Goddess Lakshmi. Therefore, if you want to establish them at home, it is considered auspicious to do on Friday. Apart from this, worship of the planet Venus gives auspicious results and it also removes some defects related to the horoscope.
Diwali mention in Puranas According to Skanda and Padma Purana, a lamp should be donated on this day. Brahma Purana says that Lakshmi comes to the house of good people at midnight of Kartik Amavasya, so there is a tradition of celebrating Diwali after cleaning and decoration of the house.
According to Shrimad Bhagwat and Vishnudharmotha Purana, Lakshmi appeared on the new moon day of Kartik month from the sea churning. After this, the tradition of Lakshmi Pujan started.
According to the story of Brahma Purana, Maharaja Prithu exploited the earth and made it rich in wealth, so celebrate Diwali.
Markandeya Purana says, when there was only darkness on the earth, the goddess sitting on the lotus appeared with a sharp light. She was Lakshmi. The world was formed by their light, so there is a tradition of Lakshmi Puja on this day. At the same time, there is a tradition of celebrating Diwali to welcome Shri Ram’s return to Ayodhya.
