Like 2024, this year too the Amavasya date of Kartik month will remain for two days, due to which there was doubt about the exact date of Diwali. But senior astrologers have clarified that Diwali will be celebrated only on Monday, October 20.

Diwali will also be celebrated on the same day in the Mahakal temple located in Ujjain. Due to Amavasya falling on 20th October in Pradosh and Nishith period, worshiping Lakshmi on this day is considered auspicious.

Amavasya will end before sunset on 21st October, so there is no point in celebrating Diwali on this day.

First know the auspicious yoga of Lakshmi worship

  • October 20, Amavasya date: 3:44 pm to 5:43 pm on 21st
  • The combination of Hasta Nakshatra, Ravi and Sarvartha Siddhi Yoga will also be special on Diwali.

Everything you need to know?

  • Why should Diwali be celebrated only on 20th October this time? Lakshmi worship on Diwali is done on the night of Amavasya Tithi, during Pradosh and Nishith period. This time Amavasya Tithi will start from 3:44 pm on 20th October and will continue till 5:43 pm on 21st October. On 20th itself, Amavasya Tithi will be in Pradosh and night time. Therefore, celebrating Diwali on this day is according to the scriptures.
  • What is Pradosh and Nishith Kaal? The auspicious time about 1.5-2 hours before and after sunset is called Pradosh Kaal. At the same time, Nishith Kaal is the time of midnight, approximately from 12 midnight to 1:30 am. It is considered special and auspicious for worshiping Lakshmi.
  • Why will Diwali not be celebrated despite Amavasya date being on 21st October? Because on October 21, Amavasya will end before sunset and Pratipada Tithi will start by evening. On 21st, Amavasya will neither be in Pradoshkaal nor in the night. Diwali worship takes place only on Amavasya night, hence it will not be celebrated on 21st.
