The Election Commission had done the voter list verification in Bihar between June 25 and July 26. About 3 crore voters were examined in this.
After Bihar, the Election Commission (EC) will now conduct phasewise Special Intensive Revision i.e. SIR (Voter List Verification in simple words) across the country. Election Commission officials have given this information to news agency PTI.
According to PTI, SIR in the country will start from those states where assembly elections are to be held next year in 2026. In such a situation, in the first phase, verification of voter lists will be done in Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.
Actually, the Election Commission checks the voter list under SIR. According to the commission, its objective is to update the voter list and remove illegal voters, such as foreign nationals, dead persons or transferred people.

First: Booth Level Officer (BLO) will go door-to-door, carrying a pre-field form enumeration form (voter information and documents).
Second: Any person can download this form by visiting the website of the Election Commission and fill it.
4 rules of screening
- If the voter’s name is in the list of 2003 then no document will have to be given. You just have to fill the form.
- If born before July 1, 1987, then proof of date of birth or birthplace will have to be provided.
- If born between July 1, 1987 to December 2, 2004, proof of both date of birth and place of birth will have to be provided.
- If born after December 2, 2004, then proof of date of birth, place of birth and documents of parents will have to be given.
