The Election Commission conducted a voter list verification between 25 June and 26 July in Bihar. About 3 crore voters were investigated in this.
Election Commission of India (ECI) is preparing to do special intensive revision ie SIR (Voter List Verification) across the country. There will be a meeting in Delhi on 10 September.
The news agency PTI quoted the officials as saying that the meeting will include the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of all the states. In this, the strategy will be discussed about the SIR across the country. This will be a third meeting after Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar took over in February.
The Election Commission has said that the process of voter list investigation after Bihar will be implemented across the country. It will begin at the end of the year. So that the voter list can be updated before the assembly elections of Assam, Kerala, Puducherry, Tamil Nadu and West Bengal in 2026.

According to the Election Commission, the purpose of SIR was to update the voter list and remove illegal voters, such as foreign nationals, dead persons or transferred people. Meanwhile, action is underway against migrants from Bangladesh and Myanmar in many states.

First: Booth level officer (blo) will take house to house, a pre-field form calculation form (voter information and documents). Second: Any person can go to the Election Commission website and download this form and fill it.
4 rules of screening
- If the name of the voter is in the 2003 list, then no documents will have to be given. Only the form has to be filled.
- If born before July 1, 1987, the date of birth or birthplace will have to be given evidence.
- If born between July 1, 1987 to 2, December 2004, evidence of both birth and birthplace will have to be given.
- Born after December 2, 2004, the date of birth, proof of birthplace and parents’ documents will have to be given.
Opposition strongly opposed Bihar SIR
The opposition opposed the voter list verification in Bihar. On July 9, the Grand Alliance called for a shutdown in Bihar regarding the voter list verification. During this period, trains were stopped in 7 cities and 12 national highways were blocked.
In Patna, Rahul Gandhi had said- Maharashtra elections were stolen and in the same way Bihar is being tried to steal elections. They know that we have considered the Maharashtra model, so they have brought Bihar models. This is the way to snatch the votes of the poor.
Opposition opposed sir throughout the monsoon session
The monsoon session of Parliament lasted from 21 July to 21 August. During the entire session, the opposition demonstrated in the Parliament Complex and the House. Opposition MPs kept demanding to discuss Bihar SIR. Due to their opposition and uproar, action could not be taken on the last day in both houses.
