Rashid Engineer was attacked in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. According to media reports, Rashid was attacked by a transgender in his barrack.
Lok Sabha MP Rashid Engineer from Baramulla was attacked in Delhi’s Tihar Jail. According to media reports, he was attacked by a transgender on Friday when he was in his barrack. Jail officials said Rashid suffered minor injuries. They are safe.
On the other hand, Rashid’s party Awami Ittehad condemned the attack by holding a press conference. Said, “This is a conspiracy to kill Rashid inside the jail. Kashmiri prisoners are being attacked inside the jail under a pattern. Earlier, many Kashmiris were attacked inside the jail.” Prison officials denied these claims.
According to media reports, it is claimed that there was a long debate between him and the transgender prisoner before the attack on Rashid. The separatist leader Rashid has been lodged in Barrack No 3 of Tihar Jail in Delhi in the UAPA case since 2019. He was allowed to attend the last monsoon session of Parliament.
Engineer Rashid was also arrested in 2005 Rashid’s name was revealed during the investigation of Kashmiri businessman Zahoor Vatali, which the NIA arrested terrorist groups and separatists in the valley for allegedly funding. Rashid was also arrested by the Special Operation Group in 2005 from Srinagar. Rashid was then accused of helping the terrorists. In this case, Rashid remained lodged in Rajbagh jail for 3 months and 17 days. In this case, the Chief Judicial Magistrate acquitted all the allegations on humanitarian grounds.
Travel from junior engineer to MP
Rashid has studied engineering. Some time worked on contract in rural development. Meanwhile, the job of Assistant Manager was found in Jammu and Kashmir Construction Project Corporation.
Even while working, he used to raise people’s issues. Then someone advised him to come into politics. He decided that he would enter politics. In 2008, he quit the government job.
In the same year, Langet contested from the assembly and won. After this he formed his party. Fought elections again in 2014 and won. His party contested 3-4 seats, losing all the other candidates.
And the biggest identity has been defeated by former Jammu and Kashmir CM Omar Abdullah and Sajjad Lone, president of the People’s Conference by a huge margin in the Lok Sabha elections 2024.
