The Delhi High Court on Monday ordered electronic voting machines (EVMs) and related paper trails to preserve the preserving of the Delhi University Student Union (DUSU) election. The High Court heard the petition filed on the basis of allegations of tampering in EVM during voting.
This petition was filed by former DUSU president Raunak Khatri and NSUI’s Josmasi Nandita Chaudhary, who was the presidential candidate this year. They allege that EVM was tampered with in the voting held on September 18, 2025. Therefore, the election should be revoked and re -elected in judicial monitoring.
ABVP complained by posting video
The court said, “The writ petition has been filed with the Prayer to cancel the voting process for the post of president, as EVM has been tampered with.”
According to the petition, serious irregularities were found in several colleges during voting. Especially the allegation is that in the ballot display on EVMs, there were marks with blue ink in front of the name of the presidential candidate of ABVP.
Advocate Mohninder Rupal, appearing for Delhi University, said, ‘There has been no tampering here. Only someone had put a thumb mark, it cannot be called tampering. ‘
The petitioners say that these trails were clearly visible to every voter and their aim was to influence, pressurize or highlight the voters to a particular candidate. According to him, such tampering shakes the foundation of the free and fair election process. This damages the fairness of the electoral process, privacy and equality of all the candidates.
In the interim order, the court directed the Chief Election Officer of Delhi University to preserve EVMS, paper trail and election related documents. The next hearing of the case will be held on 16 December.
The court also expressed displeasure over the use of luxury vehicles
The Delhi High Court had expressed strong displeasure over the use of luxury vehicles like Bentley, Rolls Royce, Ferrari and JCB for campaigning in the last week DUSU elections. The High Court said that the candidates did not take any lesson from last year’s order. Last year too, the election results were stopped due to the election and damage to public property in the elections.
A bench of Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyay and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela commented- ‘It is very sad and questions the democratic functioning of our society. How can this kind of publicity be done in students’ union elections? JCB, luxury cars, big vehicles… It is unprecedented. Where do these vehicles come from – Bentley, Rolls Royce, Ferrari? How are students bringing them? We have never heard.
Election results have been released on 19 September. On September 18, there was voting in 2 shifts. Aryan Mann from ABVP for the post of President, Nandita Chaudhary from NSUI and Anjali from Left Union were in the fray. A total of 21 candidates were contesting for the post of president.

This year only promoted with hand -made posters
This year the university had changed the rule of distributing posters. The university had said that only hand -made posters will be used in publicity. Printed posters or hoardings will not be used. Apart from this, there was a ban on pasting posters at walls, public places or making graphies on walls.
