In the Joint Mission with France, the Indian Aconvots successfully completed the deep dive in the North Atlantic Ocean through the French submarine ‘Notile’ on August 5 and 6.

Raju Ramesh, a scientist at the National Institute of Ocean Technology, landed at Horta near Portuguese coast on 5 August. On August 6, Indian Navy Commander Jatinder Pal Singh (Retired) dives a depth of 5,002 meters.

India is the sixth country which has created a human submersible. Prior to this, America, Russia, Japan, France and China have made manned submersible.

Three people can sit in it. It is made up of 80mm titanium alloy. It can withstand 600 times more than the sea level pressure at a depth of 6000 meters, ie 600 times (pressure measuring unit) pressure.

At the same time, submersible is a type of watercraft designed only to operate under water. It is usually small in size and can carry a limited number of people. Submersible is commonly used for research. These are not made for military operations. The submersible requires a ship or platform to get underwater. This separates the submersible from submarines as submarines can operate independently.

Lithium, copper and nickel found in the depths of the sea are used in batteries. At the same time, the required cobalt for electric cars and the required manganese for steel industry is also available in the depths of the sea.

According to estimates, the world will need double lithium and 70% more cobalt in three years. At the same time, the International Energy Agency estimates that by 2030, about five times more lithium and four times more cobalt will be required. The production of these raw material is decreasing significantly from demand. To balance this difference, excavation in the depth of the sea is being seen as an alternative.
