Jagdeep Dhankhar suddenly resigned as the 14th Vice President of the country on the night of 21 July. The tenure of 74 -year -old Dhankar was till 10 August 2027. He said at an event on 10 July, “If God is pleased, I will retire in August 2027.”

Abhay Chautala is the son of former Haryana Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala and is the grandson of former Deputy Prime Minister Tau Devi Lal. Abhay Chautala became the national president of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD) in Haryana, about 5 months ago after the death of Omprakash Chautala. Prior to this he was the national general secretary of INLD. Abhay Chautala contested the assembly elections in 2024 from Ellenabad seat, but lost the election to Bharat Singh Beniwal of Congress.

Dhankhar shifted to the newly constructed Vice President Enclave at Church Road near Parliament House complex in April last year.
VP Enclave with Vice President’s residence and office was constructed under the Central Vista Project. The former Vice President was to leave it after being in VP Enclave for about 15 months. After this, Dhankar was to be given a type VIII bungalow in Lutyens Delhi or any other area. Type VIII bungalow is usually allocated to senior Union ministers or presidents of national parties.
