A PIL (PIL) was heard in the Punjab and Haryana High Court. It was alleged that many migrants from West Bengal have been illegally kept in inhuman conditions in Gurugram.

Chief Justice Sheel Nagu and Justice Sanjeev Berry said, if they are kept in inhuman conditions, then tell us. We will order, there should be human conditions in the detention home. The next hearing in the case will be held on 30 September. This petition has been filed by Nirmal Grana in the High Court and the state Haryana and others have been made a party.
Bangladeshis have been placed in the holding center built in Sector 10 of Gurugram. Police team stationed outside.
Caught doubt
The court asked- “Has they been kept in custody in a crime?” On this, the petitioner’s counsel said that he has been caught not in any crime, but rather suspicion that he is an illegal Bangladeshi migrant, while he is actually an Indian citizen. The lawyer said that the West Bengal Police has also confirmed their Indian citizenship. Despite this, hundreds of migrants, including cleaning workers, were illegally detained in community centers. His families were also not informed for several days.
On behalf of the Haryana government, Additional Advocate General Deepak Ballian said, “He is Bangladeshi.” After hearing the arguments, the court deferred the hearing of the case by next week, stating that the court was lacking time.
Sop not publicly available
In the last hearing, the court asked whether the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) website issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs is available on the website. Today the court was told that the SOP has been released, but is not available in public.
This petition has been filed by activist Nirmal Grana. In this, instructions have been sought to create the right standard operation process to check the documents of migrant laborers. Also, there has been a demand to stop illegal custody of legitimate Indian citizens immediately.
It has also been demanded in the petition that the investigation conducted by the police in Gurugram should conduct an independent investigation into the alleged misconduct and arbitrariness and rehabilitation of the victims. Now the matter is listed for the next hearing on 30 September.
