West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, condemning the people of her state, termed it as a political conspiracy to suppress minority voters before the 2026 state elections. He informed that the district administration has been contacted by the Gurugram Police for the background verification of 52 people from 7 districts of West Bengal.
He alleged that the oppression of Bengali-speaking communities would be opposed in BJP ruled states. Indian citizens have the right to work anywhere in the country. This is an insult to our mother tongue and identity. The language movement will be started against it from 27 July.
Accused of catching police jawan’s son
The police have also been accused of sending Ashraful, son of Constable Sannat Ali of Assam Industrial Security Force, to the holding center. He is a resident of Barwala village in Barpeta district of Assam and reached Gurugram on 13 July after completing the college examinations. He started work at a construction site in Sector 10A. According to Sannat Ali, on Sunday morning, the police took Ashraful and 8 other people of Barpeta into custody during work.
Ali alleges that his son presented valid documents like voter ID, Aadhaar, PAN card and school certificate, but the police did not accept them and are being described as illegal Bangladeshi. He said that I have sent additional documents like my service identity card and voter ID card. A Assam Police official has assured that they are coordinator with Haryana Police for the release of Ashraful.

CPI team visited A team of CPI ML-Liberation visited the holding center in Gurugram. The team has described this center as an unhappy. He says that the workers are kept in a small hall here and the document verification is delayed.
Those detained include Hafeezul, who was caught while collecting junk from Dundahera village on 19 July. According to his brother Amanur Sheikh, he is a resident of Nadia district of West Bengal. Hafeezul showed Aadhaar, Voter ID, PAN card and passport, which had evidence of a trip to Saudi Arabia and Malaysia. Still the police took them into custody. Similarly, Minhaj Ali of Gwalpada district of Assam has proof of NRC and certificate from local police. He is also kept in custody. Minhaj says that the policemen are not listening to him. A family from Harirampur in West Bengal said that the police have detained three of our people despite showing the documents and sought a certificate from Bengal.
Family calls are coming
Mukul Hasan Sheikh, a member of the All India Worker Swaraj Kendra and the garbage picker, accused the police of targeting Bengali-speaking Muslims. He told that I visited the holding centers of Sector Gurugram. Hundreds of nervous calls are coming from the families. He feels that more than 200 laborers in Gurugram are in custody.
