Kathwa village with about 2,000 population of Shahabad assembly constituency of Kurukshetra district of Haryana is continuously struggling with flood waters. About 100 meters of the main road of the village is submerged in water and the fields are completely submerged.

The situation is such that due to the accumulation of water to the knee, the movement of bikes, cars, ambulances and fire brigade has come to a standstill. There is only the support of tractors and trolleys to visit the village. Parking has been made outside the village, where vehicles like bikes and cars have to be parked. The villagers have to pass through the tractor in the event of emergency. Students and employed people are facing the most difficulty.
These troubles of the people of Kathwa have not been suffering from a full 2 months, not for a couple of days. The Markanda river has come in spate for the 15th time in these 60 days. This year, the Markanda River exceeded the danger mark and released 28,000 cusecs of water, causing the most serious conditions this time compared to previous years.

About 600 acres of crops have been ruined in Kathwa and nearby villages like Gumti, Patti Jamra, Mughal Majra, Malakpur, Kalsana and Tangour.
- Children’s education affected: Due to the elimination of green fodder of animals, fodder is being brought from the surrounding villages to the tractor-trolley. Children’s education is being affected. School buses are not able to reach the village. Parents are forced to leave the children in a tractor-trolley and leave them to other villages.
- Emergency services affected: No small vehicle can come to the village. If someone has an emergency at night, then it has to be brought out of the village through the tractor, which takes a long time.

Things are getting worse now According to the villagers, the water of the Markanda river is still flowing fast towards the village due to overflow. As soon as the village fields and roads are overflowed, the river water will turn towards another village. Last week too, water reached the village due to the Markanda overflow.
Vehicles parking outside the village Due to the flow of river water on the main road of the village, people are parking their bikes and cars outside the village. Driving a vehicle has become dangerous due to the flowing water on the road. Employed people take their vehicles from outside the village in the morning and park back there in the evening.

Hema Majra village of Mulana also caused damage due to water above 30,000 cusecs.
