CM Sukhu also informed the Union Minister about the delay in the NH project due to various reasons and urged to complete all the formalities of these projects so that construction work could be started soon. He also stressed on prioritizing tunnel construction in NH project.

Meeting with 16th Finance Commission Chairman

Earlier, Chief Minister Sukku met Dr. Arvind Panagariya, President of 16th Finance in Delhi today (Tuesday). During this time he sought cooperation from Finance to strengthen Himachal’s economic condition. He said, keeping in mind the economic situation of the state, requested the Commission to recommend Himachal’s interest.

The Chief Minister said that the expenses in hilly states are many times more than other states. Therefore, the hilly states should get the least twice as per their population proportion. He urged the Commission to continue the revenue deficit grant keeping in mind the geographical conditions of the state and limited revenue resources.

He said, the 15th Finance Commission has made a huge cut in the revenue deficit grant, due to which the state is facing financial crisis. Sukhu requested a separate green fund provision in the annual budget for the hilly states. He informed that this subject has also been discussed with the Prime Minister. Dr. Panagadia was made aware and urged to accept these suggestions.

More than 900 houses have been damaged. 105 people have died, while 34 people are missing after several days in the flash flood after cloudburst. 27 people are missing in Mandi district alone, while 2–2 in Kangra and Kullu, 1–1 laborers in Shimla, Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti. Heavy rains have caused the most damage in Saraj Assembly of Mandi district. Many villages have been completely destroyed.
