The Army has issued a tender to the Government Company Advanced Weapon and Equipment India Limited (Aweil) to buy 6 new AK-630 air defense gun systems.
India is going to further strengthen the security of areas and religious places near the Pakistan border. For this, the Army has issued a tender to the Government Company Advanced Weapon and Equipment India Limited (Aweil) to buy 6 new AK-630 air defense gun systems.
According to army officials, the need for these gun systems was felt during Operation Sindoor, when the Pakistan Army targeted populated areas and religious places in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab. Now their deployment will provide better protection from air threats in these areas.
This gun system is part of the ‘Mission Sudarshan Chakra’. PM Narendra Modi announced the Sudarshan Chakra Mission in his speech from the Red Fort on 15 August. It aims to create an indigenous, multi-layer security shield by 2035, which will include monitoring, cyber security and air defense systems.
The AK-630 system will be able to prevent air strikes such as drones, rockets, artillery and mortars.
Will identify the target in any season
AK-630 is a 30 mm multi-marble mobile gun system, which can fire around 3,000 rounds per minute and has a firepower of 4 kilometers. It will be applied on a trailer which will be drawn from the high-comminity vehicle.
This system will be able to prevent air strikes such as drones, rockets, artillery and mortars. It will also have an all-visitor electro-optical fire control system, which can identify the target in any season.
This system will be an important pillar of ‘Sudarshan Chakra Shield’, which is planned to be fully developed by 2035. Monitoring, cyber security and air defense technology will be integrated in this shield to protect the important bases of the country from any enemy attacks.
August 24: Testing of indigenous system failing air strikes successful

The first test of the indigenous Integrated Air Defense Weapon System (IADWS) created by the Indian Defense Research Organization (DRDO) was successful. The test was conducted on the coast of Odisha on 24 August.
The IADWS is a multilaire air defense system, which will thwart the enemy’s air strikes. This includes all indigenous Quick Action Surface to Air Missile (QRSAM), Advanced Vary Short Air Defense System Missiles (VSHOrads) and High Power Laser Based Energy Weapon (Dew).
India has Akashlir Defense System
The air defense system that PM Modi praised from Adampur Airbase in Punjab on 13 May is India’s Akash Tarir Command and Control System. Hundreds of drones, missiles and rockets coming from Pakistan were killed in the air during Operation Sindoor. It has been called the iron dome of India.
Akashtir is an indigenous Artificial Intelligence-Powered Air Defense System that has jointly designed and developed by Defense Research and Development Organization (DRDO), Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) and Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for the Indian Army.
Its task is to monitor low-level aircraft and control the air defense weapon system posted on the ground. Akashtir forms a single network by integrating radar, sensor and communication systems, which is capable of detecting, tracking and neutralizing air threats in real time.
