The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has imposed a fine of Rs 40 lakh on Indigo Airlines. This action has been taken due to the use of unqualified flight simulator in pilot training.
The investigation found that the training of about 1700 pilots was not done on simulators as per the rules at Category C airports like Calicut, Leh and Kathmandu airports.
DGCA had issued a show cause notice to the Training Director on 11 August 2025. IndiGo replied on August 22 but it was not found satisfactory, hence penalty was imposed.
Indigo conducted training on 20 simulators in Chennai, Delhi, Bengaluru, Greater Noida, Gurugram and Hyderabad. These simulators were from companies like CSTPL, FSTC, ACAT and Airbus, but were not qualified for Category C airports.

Category C airports have landing difficulties, so special simulator training is necessary. DGCA said that the training director did not ensure compliance with all the rules. The flight operations director was also responsible for this. Under the Aircraft Rules 1937, a fine of Rs 20 lakh each has been imposed on both of them.
Amount has to be deposited within 30 days
Indigo has been given notice to deposit this amount in 30 days. If payment is not made on time, more strict action may be taken. Indigo can also appeal to the Joint Director General of Civil Aviation during this period.
