NS Himgiri has been created by Kolkata’s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE).
The Indian Navy will get two new warships INS Udayagiri and INS Himgiri on Tuesday. According to the Ministry of Defense, both these ships have been built under Project 17A. These are designed in such a way that they can avoid enemy radar, infrared and sound sensors. The deployment of both warships will increase the strength of the Navy in the Indo-Pacific sector.
INS Himgiri has been created by Kolkata’s Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE). Its name is derived from the old INS Himgiri. INS Udayagiri has been created by Majgaon Dock Shipbuilders Limited, Mumbai. It is named after the Udayagiri mountain range of Andhra Pradesh, which is made in just 37 months.
June 18: The country gets the first shallow water craft INS Arnala
On 18 June, the country’s first anti-Sabarine Warfare Shailo Water Craft (ASW-SWC) INS Arnala was commissioned. It was commissioned at the Navy Dockyard in Visakhapatnam. CDS General Anil Chauhan was present as the Chief Guest in the program.
It was named after the historic Arnala Fort in Vasai, Maharashtra. The ship was designed for a strong presence of the Navy in the Indian Ocean. Which is capable of detecting, track and deactivating enemy submarines in shallow water.
INS Arnala was assigned to the Indian Navy on 8 May. June 18 was a symbol of formally inclusion. Messrs Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) designed and designed under Public Private Partnership (PPP) with Kolkata and Messrs L&T Shipbuilders.
On 15 January 2025, three Waraships INS Surat (Destroyer), INS Nilgiri (Stealth Frigate) and INS Vaghashir (submarine) commissioned. PM Modi had said that the strength of the Navy has increased further with these three ultra-Mardon War Ships.

How strong Indian Navy
According to media reports, the Indian Navy has a total of 20 submarines. These include 2 nuclear-powered ballistic missile submarines, one nuclear-managed attacker submarine, 17 traditional diesel-electric attackers submarines. There are 13 destructive ships.
Apart from these, there are 15 frigates, 18 corquets, a amphibian transport doc (INS reservoir), 4 tank landing ships, 8 landing craft utility, a mining counteroble ship and 30 patrol ships. The Indian Navy aims to create a naval of 175 ships by 2035, with 50 ships currently under construction.
By 2025, the Indian Navy has about 135+ warships in active service. These include different types of ships. At the same time, there are 2 modern aircraft vessels including INS Vikramaditya and INS Vikrant.
