Irina Thakur of Lahaul-Spiti district of Himachal Pradesh has been appointed as Deputy High Commissioner of India in Australia. She will take over this responsibility at the Indian High Commission in Canberra. Irina passed the Civil Services Examination in 2012 and admission to Indian Foreign Service

He has served in many important positions in the Ministry of External Affairs. He strengthened the relationship between the two countries as the first secretary in the Indian High Commission in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Irina has a special experience of foreign policy making, diplomatic relations, passports and visa services. Lahaul-Spiti MLA Anuradha Rana said that it is a matter of pride for the district. The name of the tribal district has been illuminated by this appointment.
Former MLA Ravi Thakur said that earlier, Lahaul’s daughters have created history. But this appointment of Irina, daughter of Shasha village of Lahaul, also shows the Indian government’s commitment to women empowerment. It is inspiring for the younger generation to get such an important responsibility for a female officer coming from a tribal area.
