West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee on Thursday alleged that the Election Commission is threatening state government officials. Mamata warned that her government will not tolerate such threats.
Mamat said that BJP is playing with fire in the name of Special Intensive Review (SIR). Political interference is being attempted in the name of keeping the election process fair. Any attempt to tamper with the voter list will be a betrayal of democracy.
During the press conference at the West Bengal Secretariat, Mamata said – How can the Election Commission officials visit the state and call the government officials, while the election dates are yet to be announced.
SIR it is not what it seems
Mamta claimed that SIR is not what he seems. It is being used as a shield to implement a process like NRC (National Register of Citizens) in West Bengal.
Regarding West Bengal Chief Electoral Officer Manoj Aggarwal, Mamata claimed that he is overseeing the SIR process in the state while there are allegations against him and he is appointing corrupt officers. Union Minister Shantanu Thakur had said that after SIR in Bengal, 1.5 crore voters will be removed. On this Mamta said that how can such a statement be given even before the process starts.
Banerjee said such comments further strengthened her suspicion that SIR was politically motivated. Mamata’s comments come amid rising political tension in West Bengal over SIR, which the Trinamool Congress has repeatedly described as a ploy by the BJP to deprive minorities and poor voters from voting ahead of the 2026 assembly elections.
Said a day ago – Shah will one day become Modi’s Mir Jafar.
Mamata Banerjee had said in Kolkata on Wednesday that Union Home Minister Amit Shah was behaving like a caretaker Prime Minister. He said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi should not trust Shah too much.
He compared Shah with Mir Jafar. The CM gave this statement regarding the violence that took place during Durga Puja immersion in Cuttack, Odisha on October 5 and SIR in Bihar. Mamta said, ‘The situation in Cuttack is very bad. There has been communal violence there because of BJP and Bajrang Dal.

CM Mamta said- People of BJP and Bajrang Dal are harming the country. I have seen many governments, but I have never seen such an arrogant and dictatorial government before. They should remember that today they are in power, but they may not be there tomorrow. Nothing lasts forever. How can SIR be achieved in 15 days?
Who was Mir Jafar
Mir Jafar was the commander of Nawab of Bengal Siraj-ud-Daula, who is considered a symbol of betrayal in Indian history. In the battle of Plassey in 1757, he joined the British and betrayed Siraj-ud-Daula. Mir Jafar made a secret agreement with the British East India Company, which led to the defeat of Siraj-ud-Daula and laid the foundation of British rule in India. Later the British made Mir Jafar the Nawab of Bengal.
