Sharadiya Navratri has started in the entire country from Monday. This time Navratri will be 10 days (from 22 September to 1 October), because Chaturthi Tithi will be for two days. Durgashtami will be on 31 September and Mahanavami on 1 October. Dussehra will be celebrated on the 2nd.
The worship in the Devi temples has started since morning. Crowds of people have started reaching temples. Photos of mother’s tableau pandals have also started coming out from other cities including Kolkata, Delhi.
According to the Puranas-stories, Goddess Sati renounced her body in Daksha Prajapati’s Yajna. After this, the first Purvatar King of the Goddess was done in the form of Shailputri in the Himalayas, hence this form is worshiped on the first day of Navratri.

The festival began with the Kakad Aarti at the Mumbadevi temple in Mumbai today on the first day of Sharadiya Navratri in Mumbai, Maharashtra. A large crowd of devotees gathered in the temple since morning and the entire campus echoed with the shouts of Maa Durga.
