Jitendra Awhad, MLA of Sharad faction, has said that Sanatan Dharma has ruined India. There was never any religion named Sanatan Dharma. Its ideology is distorted. We are followers of Hinduism.

He alleged- This so-called Sanatan Dharma deprived our Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj of coronation, maligning Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. Its followers tried to kill Jyotirao Phule.

Awhad said that dung and dirt were thrown at Savitribai Phule. This Sanatan Dharma conspired to kill Shahu Ji Maharaj. This did not let Dr. BR Ambedkar drink water and go to school.

Awhad also said that Babasaheb Ambedkar was the one who eventually arose against Sanatan Dharma, burnt Manusmriti and dismissed her repressive traditions.

The NCP-SCP MLA gave it in Thane on Sunday. Which has come amid the acquittal of all the 7 accused of Malegaon Blast and the ongoing political debate on saffron terrorism.

There was a blast on 29 September 2008 in Malegaon, Maharashtra. It killed 6 people and around 100 people were injured. The Malegaon blast case was initially investigated by Maharashtra ATS. In 2011, the case was handed over to the NIA.

July 31: All accused of Malegaon Blast acquitted

All the 7 accused of Maharashtra’s Malegaon blast case were acquitted by the NIA Special Court on 31 July. After the decision, Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan had said that the words ‘Sanatan’ or ‘Hindutva’ should be used for terrorists instead of using the word ‘saffron’.

The ‘Sanatan’ organization in my Chief Minister Kaal (Maharashtra) was involved in terrorist activities. I sent a confidential report to the Union Home Ministry to ban this organization. In the same context, I used the word ‘Sanatan’, because the function of that organization was of terrorist tendency. This organization should have been banned.

August 1: BJP accused Congress

BJP MP Sambit Patra targeted the Congress on 1 August for the use of words like saffron terrorism and eternal terrorist.

He had said- Congress leader Prithviraj Chauhan has said two things. Terrorism has no religion, which is a symbol of appeasement. At the same time, they also use words like Hindu terrorist or eternal terrorist. Sushil Kumar Shinde used the word ‘saffron terror’ at one of his conferences.

A few years ago, when Shinde was asked if he still finds it right to use the word ‘saffron terror’, he smiled and said that the party leadership asked him to use the word.

We all know what they were talking about. The Gandhi family pressured him to use the word ‘saffron terror’.

August 1: Former ATS Inspector said- there was pressure to catch RSS Chief

On August 1, former Inspector of Maharashtra ATS Mehboob Muzawar made a big claim. He had said- I was ordered to arrest Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat. Bhagwat’s arrest was pressurized to establish saffron terrorism. I have documents of this claim.

He had said that there was no saffron terrorism. Everything was fake. I did not go behind, because I knew the reality. It was beyond my ability to catch a person like Mohan Bhagwat. Now the seven accused have been acquitted in this case. This exposed the fake work of ATS.

On Mujawar’s claim, BJP MP Sambit Patra said- Everything was happening at the behest of the Gandhi family. There was a conspiracy to implicate Mohan Bhagwat in a false case. He said that saffron terrorism was created.

Muzawar said-

The decision has exposed a fake investigation of a fake officer. I cannot say what the ATS investigated and why, but I was given some confidential orders about celebrities like Ram Kalsangra, Sandeep Dange, Dilip Patidar and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. All these orders were not such that anyone could follow them.

Former BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya was included in the accused

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) filed a charge sheet in 2016 in the Malegaon blast case. 3 investigative agencies and 4 judges changed in the case. The NIA Special Court’s Malegaon blast case was scheduled to come on 8 May 2025, but it was kept safe.

On 31 July, Judge AK Lahoti acquitted all the 7 accused Lt Col Shrikant Prasad Purohit, Ramesh Upadhyay, Ajay Rahirkar, Sudhakar Chaturvedi, Sameer Kulkarni and Sudhakar Dhar Dwivedi, including former BJP MP Sadhvi Pragya.

In the judgment that came after about 17 years, the court said- Investigation agency has not been able to prove the allegation, in such a situation, the accused should get the benefit of doubt. There was a blast, but it was not proved that the bomb was placed in a motorcycle.

The court said that it was not proved that the motorcycle was in the name of Sadhvi Pragya. It could not even be proved that Lt Col Srikanth Prasad Purohit made a bomb.

Victim’s lawyer said- Investigation agencies and government fail

On the court’s decision, the victim’s lawyer Shahid Naveen Ansari said- We will appeal to the High Court against the decision of the NIA court. Investigation agencies and government have failed in this matter.
