There was violence in Leh, Ladakh on 24 September. In this, 3 youths and a 46 year old former soldier Sewang Tharching were killed.
Opposition parties are considering sending a delegation to Ladakh. There was violence here on September 24 during protests demanding statehood and tribal status under the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution. Four people were killed in the violence. Parties like Congress, CPI(M), Aam Aadmi Party, Samajwadi Party and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha have held talks on sending delegations.
Opposition leaders have condemned the deaths during the protests and the subsequent arrest of environment activist Sonam Wangchuk under the National Security Act (NSA).
These parties have also supported the demand for a judicial inquiry into the firing incident.
Internet restored from the night of 9 October
Internet service was restored in Leh, the capital of Ladakh, on the night of October 9 after protests by local people. However, no order was issued for this. The Collector has warned of strict action against spreading fake news on social media. Internet service was stopped after the violence on September 24.
Support for demand for judicial inquiry
These parties have also supported the demand of Leh Apex Body and Kargil Democratic Alliance for a judicial inquiry into the firing incident. The Home Ministry has accused Wangchuk, who is leading the hunger strike in Leh, of instigating the protesters. Wangchuk called off his hunger strike after the incidents of violence. He was detained on September 26 under the National Security Act (NSA).
