A passenger tried to open the cockpit door in the Air India Express aircraft coming from Bengaluru to Varanasi. He also put the right passcode of the door, but the captain did not open the door for fear of hijack.

When the cabin crew tried to stop him, people came with him. Started trying to go inside. Airlines personnel reprimanded them and seated them on the seat. The Captain informed the Air Traffic Control (ATC).
ATC reported to the Airport Authority. As soon as the aircraft landed in Varanasi, CISF has detained the accused and 8 of his associates. All are being questioned at Babatpur police post. This has been confirmed by the Varanasi police. Cockpit is the next part of the aircraft, from where the pilot controls the aircraft.

The Air India Express flight (IX-1086) flew from Bengaluru to Varanasi at 8:14 am on Monday. As soon as the aircraft landed Varanasi Airport at 10:20 pm. CISF soldiers entered inside.
The accused were caught and handed over to the police. CISF officials said- Initial investigations have revealed that the passenger tried to open the cockpit door. All passengers have been evacuated safely.
Air India Express said- Investigation is being done The spokesperson by Air India Express said- A passenger had reached the entry area looking for a toilet. We confirm that strong security and safety protocols are applicable. They have not been compromised. The case was reported to the concerned officials. Investigation is being done.
DGCA rules
- According to Civil Aviation Rules, the cockpit door is always in lock mode. Only the right protocol can open.
- Putting the code is also not enough, unless the captain allow from inside.
- If a passenger tries to penetrate the cockpit, it falls under “Unuruly Passenger / Attempted Breach of Cockpit”.
- Such passengers may be processed to put in the no-fly list. (From 3 months to life -lifetime).
- This is a serious offense in the Anti-Hijacking Act 2016 and Aircraft Rules.
